Reconsider everything

The American History Project
Project Overview
I was recruited to help develop visual identities that would coincide with multiple episodes of this podcast series. The Reconsider Everything podcast is written and hosted by Marissa Nichol. It focuses on underrepresented people groups and experiences that are often ignored by modern American education. It describes itself as a podcast that “shares stories from people of various backgrounds… to provide new history, resources and personal perspectives that will make you reconsider everything you know and how you treat those around you.” My work revolved around creating supplemental content for the first two episodes of the series. This content was formatted for Instagram and expanded or added additional details to the podcasts themselves. The visual identities were informed by the subject matter of each episode and sought to tie in with the unique factors and conditions which each people group faced though their history and into the modern American experience.
My Contributions
Visual Identity, Assets, Social Media Carousels, Animations
The first episode I worked on dealt with the history of multiple Indigenous American tribes. The accompanying social media carousel sought to show the resilience of many of these tribes by highlighting their creative works of art that they are producing in the face of near total genocide. The color choices were intended to invoke the resurgence of these cultures and tribes. While not over saturated, they are applied to contrast deep blues, emulating the burgeoning growth of Spring. The second set of posts was developed around the indigenous history of Hawai’i. Few Americans understand the conditions surrounding the U.S. seizure of the Hawaiian Islands. It was vital to develop supplemental information that could spark curiosity and show the rich history of the Islands and the Indigenous culture. With this in mind, a brief biographical post was developed on the pivotal personality of Queen Lili’uokalani, the last Queen of Hawai’i. The colors here also reflect the culture and geography of Hawai’i.
